The majority of auto repairs need to be handled by experienced and professional auto repair workmen. However, what a lot of people don’t know is that there is some auto repair work that you can do on your own! Even if you don’t have a lot of experience with auto repairs, you can still keep your car running smoothly in between visits to the auto repair shop.
Do-it-yourself auto repair can save you a lot of time and money that you would otherwise spend taking your car to the shop. The following do-it-yourself auto repair jobs are easy, simple, and fast. All you need are a little car experience and some basic tools.
Removing a Stripped Screw
Stripped screws are a huge annoyance, but removing them is a breeze! First, fit a drill with a small bit, then drill out the middle of the stripped screw. Drill just deep enough to get the stripped head off of the rest of the screw. Then, using a vice grip, unscrew the remaining screw piece from where it was previously stuck.
Fixing an Exhaust Pipe
A broken or dangling exhaust pipe can create a lot of obnoxious noise and dangerous sparks. To fix one, you need to start by locating the exhaust hanger underneath the car. Then, remove the broken pipe. Watch out for sharp edges! Simply hang the new pipe on the hanger, and finish by screwing it onto the hanger with a crescent wrench.
Some auto repairs are very easy to do on your own! However, there are some auto repair jobs that require professional help. If you are unsure about whether or not you can complete an auto repair job by yourself, you should ask for professional help—it is better to be safe than sorry!
